Unlawful detention of six migrants in Thessaloniki house — two suspects charged

Two people were arrested on the afternoon of 4 September 2026 in Dendropoḟamos, Thessaloniki, for unlawfully holding six foreign nationals against their will in a house in the area, according to ERT.

A case file was drawn up against the two arrested persons for abduction in complicity, provision of shelter in complicity, and complicity in trafficking illegal migrants within the country.

They comprise a 27-year-old foreign national without travel documents and his 24-year-old Greek partner. According to police investigation, the two suspects used physical violence and threats against the victims, who lacked any documentation.

To prevent any communication, they had removed their mobile phones, making contact with relatives or authorities impossible.

During the operation — in which officers from the Migration Management Department and the Crime Prevention and Suppression Department of Thessaloniki took part — a sum of money, three mobile phones and a wooden stick were seized. The 27-year-old attempted to escape but was immediately immobilised by officers.
