Two Turkish nationals were arrested in Evros for the importation and trafficking of illegal weapons. Fifty pistols and 49 magazines were discovered in an international transport lorry, concealed in a travel bag and suitcase.

A coordinated operation by prosecutorial authorities led to the arrest of two foreign nationals in the Thrace region. The arrested individuals, Turkish nationals, are accused of trafficking illegal weapons with the aim of supplying criminal groups.
According to Naftemporiki, the Greek Police had received information about an impending transfer of a significant quantity of weapons via commercial vehicles. From the analysis of the evidence, it was established that the transfer would take place using international transport lorries.
Police officers from the Organised Crime Countermeasures Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece, in cooperation with the Illegal Weapons Trafficking and Trading Bureau, designed and executed a special operation in the area.
Early on Wednesday, two lorries were located that had crossed the border at a border checkpoint in Evros. One vehicle was leading, and its driver had assumed the role of a "sweeper", checking whether there were police forces on the route.
When authorities immobilised and searched the second lorry, they found a bag and a suitcase concealed inside the cabin. Inside them were 50 pistols and 49 magazines, carefully packaged.
The confiscated weapons were stripped of serial numbers, making them "ghost" weapons. This characteristic points to similar cases that authorities had handled in the previous year.
The two arrested individuals face charges of membership in a criminal organisation and violation of weapons legislation. The lorry used for the transfer was confiscated, and the perpetrators will be referred to the prosecutor.
