Fraud ring in Zephyri: "Callers", "collectors" and pipe for incriminating mobile phones
A criminal organisation that was operating in Zephyri, Attica, defrauding citizens by posing as employees of DEDDIE or accountants, has fallen into the hands of the police. According to Newsit.gr, the police operation was carried out on Thursday, 3 September, and led to the arrest of two individuals.
Two more people are included in the case file, who are already serving sentences in a correctional facility for a similar case. The organisation operated at least from the beginning of August, with a clear hierarchy: "management personnel", "callers" and "collectors".
The "callers" made a large number of calls daily, presenting themselves as employees of DEDDIE or accountants. With various pretexts, they convinced victims to gather cash and valuables and leave them in accessible locations. Subsequently, the "collectors" would go to the homes and retrieve or steal the items.
During the investigation, the premises used as the "telephone centre" of the network were located. Nine mobile phones, SIM cards, a small quantity of jewellery and €6,500 were seized. A particularly notable discovery was a makeshift pipe connected to the drainage of a residence: according to the police, members of the organisation threw the mobile phones they used down there in order to make it difficult to trace them.
The total financial gain of the organisation is calculated at over €175,000. To date, the involvement of the accused in four cases has been established. In one of these, in August 2026 in an area of north-eastern Attica, the loot reached approximately €150,000.
