Video from security camera documents explosion that killed 70-year-old in Thessaloniki
Newsit.gr brought to light video footage from a security camera that captures the moment of the explosion at the apartment building where Vagia Nestor, 70 years old, resided, who ultimately succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The arson attack targeted the apartment of her daughter, Aphrodite Nestor, a senior official of New Democracy.
The footage initially shows a small flash followed by the explosion at the building. In a second video, two explosions can be heard, with the second being clearly more powerful. A third video documents the first moments after the explosion, where a man can be seen talking on the phone.
A resident of the building described what he experienced that night. "I woke up from the explosion when the first petrol bomb went off, I went outside, saw the flames and called the fire service, who told me they had already been informed," he stated. "Within two minutes they had already arrived." He reported that firefighters went up floor by floor to check if there were any victims, and then transferred Aphrodite Nestor to the balcony of his apartment, where they provided her with first aid. "She was in shock. I heard that with Ms Nestor, her mother, they tried to put out the fire. Yesterday afternoon I found out about the death of Mrs Vagia Nestor," he added.
The police authorities are thoroughly analysing footage from security cameras in the area. According to investigations, at least three individuals are believed to have participated in the attack, moving about on two motorcycles.
Two of the perpetrators are believed to have been on the same motorcycle and to have placed the incendiary devices at the target locations. A third person, on a second motorcycle, is believed to have assumed a supporting role, acting as an observer.
The authorities are also examining the possible involvement of a fourth person, who may have been driving the second motorcycle. According to the same information, the images of the perpetrators' departure are characterised as particularly clear and may prove critical for their identification.
