Man shot in the head in Glyfada — Greek FBI investigates Greek Mafia connection

The 52-year-old man found shot dead in Glyfada in the early morning hours was known to authorities from numerous serious cases, including extortion, hooligan violence and domestic violence. According to To Vima, the Greek FBI is now examining whether personal disputes or old "open scores" are behind the execution.

The man had served a prison sentence and in recent times had been out of prison under restrictive conditions. During the examination at the crime scene, five shell casings were found, which were submitted to forensic laboratories for analysis. The victim had a gunshot wound to the head.

Connection to the "Moschouri group"

A central point of the investigation is the alleged involvement of the 52-year-old in an extortion ring that was at the centre of a major police operation in 2015. At that time, the man had been arrested as an alleged member of the so-called "Moschouri group" — a criminal organisation linked to Giorgos Moschouri, a person whom authorities considered one of the leading figures of the Greek Mafia.

Moschouri himself was murdered in April 2025 in an attack in Chalandri. However, to date no confirmed connection has been established between the execution in Glyfada and Moschouri's murder. The man's earlier involvement with this particular milieu is, according to investigators, one of the elements that will be evaluated within the framework of the investigation.

From the "door" of the coastal strip to arrest for domestic violence

The 52-year-old worked for years in the nightlife entertainment sector, mainly as a security officer and "door" at nightclubs in the coastal area. At the same time, his criminal record includes a domestic violence case, for which he was arrested in 2024 — a period during which he was already out of prison under restrictive conditions.

How the murder was discovered

A man found the victim unconscious on the street, next to his motorcycle, and called emergency services. Police officers who rushed to the scene established that the 52-year-old had been shot in the head and was already dead. The scene of the attack proved to be rich in evidence: five shell casings were recovered during the investigation.

Greek FBI turns to the past and recent contacts

Officials from the Greek FBI, who have taken over the case, believe that the murder likely stems from personal disputes or outstanding matters from the victim's past. Investigations are focusing both on the 52-year-old's history — including his connections to criminal networks — and on his contacts and movements in the weeks before the execution.
