Greek man accused of spying in Britain – hidden camera in sock
46-year-old Ioannis Aidinidis appeared before a London court, accused of collaborating with an Iranian intelligence service.
Spying allegations against Aidinidis in London
According to Efimerida ton Syntakton, 46-year-old Ioannis Aidinidis appeared before a London court, facing allegations of collaboration with an intelligence service linked to Iran.
Prosecutor Lee Ingram stated that the accused travelled to Britain for the purpose of surveilling a journalist from the television station Iran International, who is critical of the Iranian regime. During his visits, he is alleged to have photographed and videoed houses and vehicle registration plates at locations associated with the journalist.
According to the prosecutor, during his second visit, Aidinidis "placed a hidden camera inside a sock," which "was able to send data to unknown persons abroad."
The accused, born in Georgia and a permanent resident of Munich, travelled to the United Kingdom from 16 to 21 April and from 12 to 14 May. He confirmed his identity in court and will remain in custody until the next hearing, on 19 June.
