Arson in Lagonissi: 25-year-old arrested on suspicion of deliberately setting fire
A 25-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of arson in Lagonissi, Attica. He will be brought before a prosecutor on Monday.

According to the Newspaper of Editors, the Investigative Unit for Combating Arson Crimes (A.K.A.E.E.) of Eastern Attica proceeded today with the arrest of a 25-year-old, accused of deliberately setting a fire in Lagonissi, Attica.
The fire broke out at 09:05 in an open-air space and destroyed approximately 50 square metres of dry grass. According to the findings of the investigation, naked flame was used, while the fire was brought under control before it could spread further.
Specialised officers from the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) also attended the scene, assisting in investigative actions and the collection and assessment of evidence. The arrested person is being held and will be brought before the competent prosecutor on Monday.
The Fire Service also announced figures regarding the overall picture of arson crimes from 1 January to 20 September 2026: 807 administrative fines have been imposed with a total amount of €1,382,537.96, whilst 356 arrests have been made. Of these, 316 (88.76%) concern arson due to negligence and 40 (11.24%) due to deliberate intent.
The D.A.E.E. and A.K.A.E.E. state that they continue with undiminished intensity investigations to locate individuals committing arson, demonstrating zero tolerance for acts that endanger human lives, property, and the natural environment.
