Arson attack claims life of mother of renowned athlete in Nea Smyrni
A resident of the apartment building in Nea Smyrni where the arson attack occurred described the tragic moments he experienced, which resulted in the death of Aphrodite Nestora's mother.
According to reporting by Proto Thema, the resident stated that "the stairwell became a chimney" and described how he could not breathe because of the thick smoke. He required hospitalisation at Hippocrates Hospital, from which he was discharged.
Aphrodite Nestora, a renowned athlete, managed to escape and save her life by leaving her home, whilst her mother was unable to escape the flames.
