Incendiary attack in Thessaloniki: Video reveals the method used by three perpetrators

Counterterrorism: One step away from identifying the perpetrators of the triple attack
Counterterrorism officers are very close to revealing the identities of the three individuals who took part in the incendiary attack against New Democracy officials in Thessaloniki in the early hours of 1 July 2026, according to information from Newsit.gr.
Officers from the counterterrorism unit handling the case have a clear picture of how the perpetrators operated, based on video footage in their possession.
How the perpetrators acted
The footage clearly captures the carefully orchestrated nature of the attack. A first motorcycle, with a passenger whose features were concealed, moved ahead, clearing the way. A second motorcycle followed with two occupants, also with covered faces, who stopped outside the targeted apartment buildings.
The first two buildings were less than 200 metres apart from each other. The passenger on the second motorcycle placed and activated makeshift incendiary devices, constructed from petrol bombs and flammable liquid, before the perpetrators disappeared.
A camera is reported to have recorded the third target, which was approximately 2 kilometres from the first two. The same method was applied there: placement of a makeshift incendiary device and immediate departure.
Investigation into the escape route
Counterterrorism analysts are now focusing on the perpetrators' escape route — namely where they travelled after the triple attack and at which point they concealed the two motorcycles. At the same time, similar incidents from the recent past are being examined, as well as arrests of suspects from incidents involving anti-establishment activists outside Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Authorities believe that immediately after the attack, the perpetrators went to a specific location in order to cover their tracks.
Identification: a matter of hours
According to the same information, the identification of at least one of the perpetrators is estimated to be a matter of time, with some sources reporting that the details could be known as soon as that same afternoon.
The attack targeted New Democracy officials who, according to the information, do not have police protection.
