Five people needed to be taken to hospital in Thessaloniki following a series of incendiary bomb explosions that detonated in the early morning hours. The attacks occurred at residences where members of Greece's conservative ruling party, New Democracy, reside.
The explosions occurred between 4:00 and 4:45 in the morning. The perpetrators used makeshift explosive devices constructed from camping gas canisters. During the third and final explosion, people were injured. Cars and motorcycles were engulfed in flames. One of the vehicles belonged to a New Democracy parliamentary candidate. According to police, the candidate suffered burns, whilst his mother is hospitalised in the intensive care unit with burns.
Before the explosions, many Greek media outlets received anonymous warning calls, a fact that prevented more serious casualties.
Such attacks are relatively frequent in Greece. In June 2024, a police officer was injured in an attack with a petrol-fuelled incendiary bomb outside the home of an Athenian court president. In April 2025, a bomb exploded near the offices of the Greek railway organisation in Athens. In July 2025, a bomb was placed outside the home of the president of the association of prison staff in Thessaloniki. The president was not injured, but two other people sustained minor injuries from glass shards.
