Three firebomb attacks were carried out in the early hours of Wednesday on buildings in Thessaloniki where members of the ruling party New Democracy (ND) live. Five people were injured in the attacks and were taken to hospitals. One woman's condition is described as critical.
The attacks targeted residences where members of the conservative faction in power lived. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who leads the ND party, strongly condemned the firebomb attacks, according to a report in the newspaper Kathimerini.
Greek authorities are investigating the motives of the perpetrators and are examining the possibility of terrorist activity. Political officials described the attacks as acts of terrorism. Police are conducting investigations to locate and arrest those responsible.
Thessaloniki, the second-largest city in Greece, has in the past been the target of similar actions by far-left organisations. Attacks against political targets remain rare in the country.
