Three arson attacks on residences of members of the ruling right-wing New Democracy party in Thessaloniki claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman, mother of a party politician.

Three coordinated arson attacks on residences of members of the ruling New Democracy (ND) party were carried out in the early hours in Thessaloniki. Five people were injured from the attacks, while a 72-year-old woman suffered extensive burns and died in hospital.
The woman was the mother of ND politician Aphrodite Nesterova, who was hospitalised together with her parents following the attack. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, president of ND, expressed his condolences to the victim's family.
The perpetrators used camping gas cylinders and set fire to cars and motorcycles in three different neighbourhoods of the city. The police counter-terrorism service has taken over the investigation, examining the possibility that the attacks were coordinated.
"This is a cowardly, terrorist, murderous attack (...) We will not tolerate any new form of terrorism (...) those times have passed," said Mitsotakis, referring to politically motivated violent acts from previous decades. "Those who commit such acts are nothing but criminals, and that is how they will be treated," the prime minister added, assuring that the police would locate those responsible and bring them to justice.
