A routine check in the centre of the capital escalated into a violent confrontation with police when a 32-year-old reacted aggressively by brandishing a weapon and threatening officers from the DIAS unit.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning, according to Newsbeast. Police officers approached the man for a check at a central location in Athens. Instead of cooperating, he drew a weapon and threatened them.
An immediate foot pursuit was launched. The pursuing authorities chased him through streets near Chalkokondyli, eventually managing to immobilise him and place him in handcuffs. Throughout the operation, the young man attacked police officers physically and verbally.
This individual has repeatedly come to the attention of pursuing authorities. His record includes multiple arrests for theft and burglary of homes. Restrictive measures had been imposed against him, including an obligation to report to the local police station three times each month.
The 32-year-old was brought before a prosecutor, facing charges of illegal possession of a weapon and assault on officials.
