Armed 20-year-old in Heraklion bar: Arrested alongside accomplice who hid the gun
Yesterday afternoon, in a coastal settlement of the Archanes-Asterouseia municipality near Heraklion, a young man aged 20 entered a snack bar whilst carrying a firearm. The incident occurred in the Three Churches area and caused panic among customers and staff.
According to an announcement by the General Police Directorate of Crete, as reported by ERTnews, the establishment's managers immediately notified the authorities. Police officers from the local station and the TAE Messara unit arrived at the scene and proceeded to arrest the 20-year-old.
During the investigation of the incident, police identified a second man, aged 25, who is alleged to have taken the weapon from the first arrested individual and concealed it in a nearby location. According to the investigation, his intention was to obstruct the prosecution of the 20-year-old. The gun was found and seized.
Both arrested individuals face charges including violations of weapons legislation, making threats, and harbouring a criminal in the case of the 25-year-old. The case file prepared will be submitted to the competent prosecutor.
The relevant services are continuing the pre-investigation to establish the precise causes and background of the incident.
