DAOE operation in Aulona – six arrests for drug trafficking
According to Efimerida ton Syntakton, six people were arrested on Monday afternoon at the Special Correctional Facility for Young Offenders in Aulona, in an operation by the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (DAOE). Among those detained is a correctional officer.
The operation involved EKAM police officers, in the presence of a prosecutor. The aim was to dismantle criminal networks operating within correctional facilities, following information obtained about the possession and trafficking of narcotic substances at the facility.
During searches of three cells, small quantities of cocaine, raw cannabis, and processed cannabis in the form of "chocolate", as well as four mobile phones, were found and seized.
From the preliminary investigation, it emerged that the five detainees at the facility who were arrested were collectively distributing narcotic substances to their fellow inmates.
The correctional officer was found to be in possession of a makeshift cigarette containing raw cannabis, which was seized. On the orders of the competent prosecutor, he was released.
The remaining arrested individuals, who have previously engaged the authorities' attention for similar and other offences, were brought before a prosecutor.
