Raid in Megara uncovers telephone fraud centre
Video documentation captured frame-by-frame the police operation at a house in Megara, where a criminal organisation's hideout had been established specialising in telephone fraud, according to In.gr.
A convoy of vehicles from Security and the Investigation of Crimes Department for Western Attica arrived at the location on Saturday, 10 October, while armed EKAM officers stormed the building.
A total of six members of the organisation were arrested, aged 24, 25, 27, 35, 36 and 38. The case file includes an additional eight identified individuals who remain at large.
The charges relate to the formation and participation in a criminal organisation, aggravated theft and fraud, robbery, receipt of proceeds of crime, and violations of legislation on controlled substances.
From January 2026, the organisation operated with clear division of roles and continuous activity. Its base of operations was Ano Liosia, where it maintained its telephone centre.
Some members conducted initial calls to assess the credibility of potential victims. Those who "responded" were referred to a central phone operator, who took over the completion of the fraud.
The perpetrators presented themselves to victims as employees of electricity companies, accountants, tax consultants or police officers, with the aim of obtaining money or valuables. Coordination among members took place via dedicated telephone lines and devices.
A total of 78 cases of fraud, theft of catalytic converters and robbery across various areas of Attica were solved.
