On Tuesday (30/6) the Security Directorate of Attica carried out a major operation to dismantle a ring that defrauded citizens in two ways: by telephone and through physical break-ins to residences. The perpetrators presented themselves as staff of the electricity distribution company.

Eight people are already in custody, and investigations by the prosecuting authorities are continuing. Preliminary findings indicate that members of the group operated in many areas of Attica, carrying out residential break-ins alongside telephone fraud schemes.

The method they employed was as follows: they would contact unsuspecting citizens by telephone, claiming there was a problem with their electricity bill or connection. Using this pretext, they extracted personal data and sums of money from the victims.

Authorities are currently investigating the full scope of the criminal activity, and an official statement is expected regarding the exact number of cases solved and the total amount of damage caused.
