A coordinated operation by police and the public power utility DEDDIE identified dozens of illegal electrical connections in Greece's largest Roma settlement.
Operation against electricity theft in Drosero, Xanthi: 7 arrests and 49 cases
Police forces together with teams from DEDDIE conducted a large-scale operation this morning in the settlement of Drosero in Xanthi, the most populous Roma camp in the country. The aim was to identify illegal electrical connections.
During the operation, authorities removed hundreds of metres of cables that were used for electricity theft. The checks led to the identification of 49 cases of electricity theft. Additionally, seven arrests were made and one person was brought in for questioning.
The operation was recorded on camera by journalist Kostas Bouris for ERT, which released relevant video footage.
