In the morning of Monday, 15 June, a large-scale police operation began in areas of northeastern Attica and the capital, targeting a group that had been engaged in the theft of passenger vehicles.
The operation involves officers from the Department for Persecution and Investigation of Crimes in Spata-Artemida, in cooperation with colleagues from the Directorate for Persecution of Crimes Against Property in Attica and the Special Crimes Division.
The authorities had drawn up a case file against members of the organisation and relevant arrest warrants had been issued. The ring's activities had a systematic character.
From the early hours of the operation, 13 people are in custody. The investigation by the prosecuting authorities continues.
