Knife attack in Eleusis — investigation into far-right background
Three men attacked a 32-year-old with a sharp object in Eleusis on Thursday afternoon, wounding him in the leg, according to Naftemporiki. The incident occurred around 16:20 on Konstantinoupoleos Street.
According to witness statements that have reached the authorities, the assailants reportedly told the victim: "We run things here". Statements being examined by the authorities indicate that the three men are known for far-right activity in the area.
The 32-year-old told police that he belongs to left-wing circles and that the assailants explicitly told him the attack was carried out because his personal details had been publicised on a website of the anti-establishment movement. He maintained, however, that he had no involvement in that publicisation.
Police sources are examining the possibility that the attack is connected to an incident recorded last August in the same area, between individuals from far-right and anti-fascist circles. Following that incident, details of certain individuals reportedly belonging to far-right circles had been publicised online.
After the attack, the injured man was initially taken by private vehicle to the Eleusis Health Centre, where a security guard notified police. Due to the severity of the wounds — which are described as deep — the 32-year-old was subsequently transferred by ambulance to Tzaneio Hospital in Piraeus, where he is receiving treatment.
The preliminary investigation was taken over by Western Attica Police, which is collecting statements and evidence to establish the precise motives and to locate the three alleged assailants. The authorities are examining possible political and racist motives for the attack.
