Stabbed 32-year-old in Eleusis — police investigate political motives

According to the Newspaper of Editors, three far-right individuals attacked a 32-year-old anti-fascist with a knife on Konstantinoupoleos Street in Eleusis, shortly after four o'clock on Thursday afternoon. The perpetrators, who did not have their faces covered, approached the victim, threatened him and subsequently stabbed him at least twice in the thigh before fleeing.

The victim was initially transported by private means to Eleusis Health Centre. Due to the depth of the wounds to his legs, an ambulance from EKAB was required to transfer him to Tzaneio Hospital in Piraeus, where he is hospitalised out of danger but with serious injuries.

The authorities are examining a possible connection to a clash that had occurred in August in Eleusis between far-right and anti-fascist individuals. After that incident, anti-authoritarian activists are said to have published details and photographs of the far-right individuals who had attacked their group on their website.

The 32-year-old told police officers that the perpetrators explicitly stated they attacked him because he "posted" the disputed photographs. He denies any involvement — he claims they have mistaken him for another person and that he has no connection either to the summer incident or to the disclosure of the details.

Sources from the Greek police, as reported by ERT, confirm that the three perpetrators are known far-right individuals in the area and that the attack has political motives. The 32-year-old named them in his statement, saying they stabbed him because he was left-wing.

The initial assessment of robbery — based on the victim's report that they asked him for his mobile phone and that one perpetrator wore a shirt of a well-known football team — was ruled out by subsequent statements.

The incident coincides temporally with the release from prison of neo-Nazi Ilias Kasidiaris and the increased electoral influence of far-right parties at the European level, a fact which reinforces the sense of concern surrounding this particular incident.
