Eleusis: Propatria neo-Nazis face attempted murder charges following knife attack on anti-fascist
Two far-right extremists with links to the neo-Nazi organisation Propatria — an offshoot of Golden Dawn, according to Efimerida ton Syntakton — face charges of attempted wilful murder in joint commission, following a knife attack against a 32-year-old anti-fascist in Eleusis on Thursday afternoon, 8 October 2026, at approximately 16:10.
According to video footage that has been released and already included in the case file, the 32-year-old was outside his home walking his dogs when the two perpetrators arrived on a motorbike. They got off and repeatedly blocked his way. One of the two shouts "I am a fascist" before the attack begins, and is then heard urging his accomplice to "slit his throat".
Three knife wounds, injury to the femoral artery
The 32-year-old, known in the area for his anti-fascist activities, sustained three knife wounds. Two struck him deeply in the leg — in the femoral artery — whilst the third caused laceration to his abdominal area. According to his lawyers, Eleftheria Tombatzoglou, Vassilis Tsilis and Argyris Syrigos, their client escaped death thanks to luck and the intervention of a passer-by who stopped the attack and moved him to a safe location. He is being treated at Tzaneio Hospital and is out of danger.
According to the lawyers, the attack was preceded by surveillance and tracking of the victim, elements that give the incident characteristics of an ambush. The two defendants had also filed a complaint against the 32-year-old, claiming that he attacked first. The videos, according to the lawyers, contradict these claims.
Surrender to authorities and charges
The 22-year-old surrendered to authorities on Friday evening and the 18-year-old on Saturday, after the period of flagrante delicto had passed. Criminal prosecution was initiated against both for attempted wilful murder in joint commission, illegal possession of arms, carrying weapons, and violation of weapons legislation. The 22-year-old is reported to have come to the attention of authorities previously in cases related to weapons and drugs, whilst both are reported to be involved in football hooligan incidents.
Mass march in Eleusis on Saturday
Thousands of protesters filled the streets of Eleusis on Saturday afternoon, with the slogan "Not an inch of land to fascists" echoing throughout the city. The march took place under strict police supervision. Many residents applauded from their balconies. Left-wing, labour and anti-fascist collectives participated in the demonstration.
Among those present was Magda Fyssi, mother of Pavlos Fyssi who was murdered by a member of Golden Dawn in 2013, as well as Giannis Mangos. Magda Fyssi had visited the injured man at Tzaneio Hospital earlier in the morning. "For 13 years now, since Pavlos's murder, fascist murderous attacks have not stopped, and by a miracle we have not had to mourn another Pavlos," she told journalists.
Political reactions
The leader of the New Left Gabriel Sakellariidis visited the injured man at Tzaneio and stated to Naftemporiki TV that the attack reminds him "exactly of the Fyssi typology". "We see the same typology at many levels with what was happening in 2011 and 2012 with Golden Dawn and with what we do not want to see repeated today," he stressed.
The Labour Sector Head of ELLADA Dionysios Temponeras also stood by the 32-year-old, together with Deputy Justice Sector Head Christina Tsagli. Temponeras linked the incident to the recent release of Ilias Kasidiaris, emphasising that the democratic world remains present and ready to respond.
"The cycle of neo-Nazi violence has not been closed"
The victim's lawyers stressed in a written statement that "thirteen years after Pavlos Fyssi's murder, we continue to come face to face with similar murderous attacks". They also pointed out that "the propaganda and hate rhetoric stemming from national socialist ideology are penetrating schools and influencing teenagers", leading individuals of very young age to resort to extreme violence.
Members of anti-fascist collectives in the area emphasised that Saturday's march constitutes "a first act of collective resistance" and that no opportunity should be given to fascist groups to reclaim public space and expression.
