Domestic violence in Almyros: 28-year-old tried on charges of attacking pregnant woman

A new case of domestic violence was heard today, 3 September, by the Single-Member Court of Misdemeanours in Volos. According to Ta Nea, a 28-year-old Roma man, resident of Almyros, was brought before the court on charges of dangerous bodily harm against his 22-year-old pregnant partner.

The incident occurred on 30 August in Almyros, Magnesia. A neighbour notified police after reportedly witnessing the defendant kicking his pregnant partner in the head, back and legs. The 28-year-old was arrested and held by authorities.

In court, the defendant reportedly admitted to the act and requested that the case be referred to criminal mediation proceedings. The neighbour was examined as an eyewitness for the prosecution, and testified that the couple had engaged in a heated altercation over a trivial matter, with the defendant striking his partner.

The court decided to adjourn the trial for 17 September, so that the victim herself could testify—she did not appear for a second time during the proceedings.
