According to Newsit.gr, a MEGA television news crew came under attack on the afternoon of Thursday, 13 August 2026, while covering developments from the major fire in Chalkidiki.
"They smashed MEGA's microphone, they smashed my mobile phone, it was a close call that they didn't smash the camera too," said journalist Maria Gougoutsa, who was heading the news crew. "They didn't want us to be in that area. We went from the other side to bring footage and not only did they curse at us, they spat at us, they hit us, but they also drove us out of the area."
Gougoutsa noted that the perpetrators are likely known in the area. "Obviously they are known to the area… They are known to the Police," she emphasised.
