Bulldozer burglary at jewellery shop in Aulis — off-duty police officer attacked with fire extinguisher
Seven masked perpetrators used a JCB-type bulldozer to demolish the frontage of a jewellery shop in Aulis, Euboea, in the early hours of Friday, 16 October. The perpetrators seized jewellery from the display cases and fled, leaving behind the excavator they had used to break in.
Ethnos published video evidence from the shop's security cameras, which recorded frame-by-frame every movement of the group during the operation.
The raid with the heavy vehicle
The seven perpetrators arrived outside the jewellery shop in a car and a JCB bulldozer. Using the heavy vehicle, they drove into the shop's frontage, causing extensive material damage and gaining access to the interior.
Within seconds, four of the masked men entered the shop holding torches and began emptying the jewellery display cases. The remaining three stayed outside, keeping watch over the scene.
The owner watched the destruction live
The shop's alarm immediately alerted the owner on his mobile telephone. By accessing the security cameras remotely, he watched in live broadcast as the perpetrators destroyed his business and removed the jewellery.
Attack on off-duty police officer with fire extinguisher
During the operation, an off-duty police officer happened to pass through the area in his car and noticed the presence of one of the perpetrators. When he returned to the scene, a masked man moved towards him and discharged a fire extinguisher in his direction in an attempt to force him to leave.
Immediately afterwards, the perpetrators boarded their car and disappeared. At the scene remained the excavator that had been used for the break-in, as well as the destroyed shop.
