A 58-year-old has been arrested in Heraklion, Crete and brought before the competent prosecutor, accused of attempted murder against an 8-year-old child. According to Newsbeast, the man allegedly broke into a neighbouring flat, slapped two children who were alone there and pressed a pillow against the face of the younger child.
The children's mother, aged 8 and 12 years old, had been absent from the home for approximately ten minutes. During this time the two siblings quarrelled and shut the door loudly — an incident which, according to the complaint, triggered the reaction of the 58-year-old neighbour.
"He heard the noise and came into the house. He started hitting the children because they were making noise and then he took a pillow," the mother said, as reported by Live News.
According to the complaint, the accused pressed the pillow against the face of the 8-year-old in an attempt to immobilise him. The situation was reversed thanks to the 12-year-old brother, who began shouting that their mother was returning. "He grabbed a pillow and almost suffocated my child. The older one was shouting 'go away, my mum is coming' and then he let him go," she stated.
The mother also alleged that, after the 58-year-old left the flat, he reportedly followed her 12-year-old son in his car on the street.
She stated that this particular neighbour had in the past only complained verbally about the children's noise, without ever breaking into the home.
The 58-year-old was given a deadline to make his statement the following day at midday. Among the charges he faces is attempted murder, which is classified as one of the most serious crimes in the criminal code. The case is now in the hands of the judicial authorities.
