An 18-month-old infant died at the University Hospital of Heraklion following cardiac arrest. The 45-year-old grandfather was arrested on the orders of the prosecutor for exposing a minor to danger.

A baby barely 18 months old breathed its last on Friday evening at the University Hospital of Heraklion, despite doctors' efforts. The child belonged to a Roma family and its loss caused deep distress.
According to ertnews.gr, the 45-year-old grandfather had taken care of the child, as the infant's parents were working away from the island. On Friday evening, the elderly man rushed it to hospital, but doctors were unable to save it.
In the days prior, the child had shown signs of deterioration. It had visited a paediatrician, who had prescribed medication. Following the death, the grandfather was handed over to the prosecuting authorities on the orders of the prosecutor, accused of leaving the minor exposed to danger. The authorities are investigating all the circumstances that led to the tragic outcome.
