Forged passport workshop in Aigaleo – 61-year-old arrested by the Attica Aliens Division
Forged passports, Schengen visas and fake entry stamps were found inside a residence in Aigaleo on the evening of Thursday, 8 October 2026. According to Newsit.gr, the Hellenic Police located the premises during a targeted operation and arrested a 61-year-old man who is believed to have played a central role in a network involved in the illegal trafficking of migrants to European Union countries.
According to police, the house functioned simultaneously as a workshop for the manufacture and falsification of documents and as a storage facility for illegal material. The equipment found permitted the placement of forged Schengen visas in passports and the creation of fake entry stamps.
The cost of each forged document could reach 900 euros, depending on the type. The fee for transporting a migrant to a European country was as much as 8,000 euros.
The network trafficked migrants mainly from Turkey and Iraq, following a route through North Macedonia. In some cases migrants entered Greece illegally; in others they remained in North Macedonia, whilst their passports were smuggled into Greece and handed over to the 61-year-old. The latter is believed to have undertaken the manufacture or falsification of the documents, so that their holders would appear to be legally entitled to enter EU countries.
The operation was carried out by the Attica Aliens Division as part of a European action to combat the illegal trafficking of migrants. Due to the international dimension of the case, Greek authorities are cooperating with Europol for the evaluation of evidence gathered and the identification of possible additional persons involved.
The 61-year-old faces charges of forgery, unlawful possession of passports and travel documents on a continuing basis, as well as violations of legislation concerning aliens. Following his arrest, he was taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
