Contractor arrested following worker's death at Motor Oil refinery
Police arrested a 59-year-old contractor on Thursday afternoon (9.10.2026) in Agios Theodoros, following the workplace accident that cost the life of a 43-year-old foreign worker at Motor Oil facilities, according to cnn.gr.
The accident occurred in the morning of the same day, when two workers from an external contractor — aged 43 and 50 — were carrying out maintenance work at the refinery facilities. During the work, an explosion occurred, resulting in injuries to both men.
The injured workers were initially transported to Corinth General Hospital and subsequently transferred to a hospital in Attica, due to the severity of their condition. The 43-year-old succumbed to his injuries later, whilst the 50-year-old is hospitalised on a ventilator in intensive care at Thriassio Hospital.
The 59-year-old contractor, as the supervisor responsible for the work, was initially brought to the Agios Theodoros Police Department shortly after the incident. Following the 43-year-old's death, he was arrested on a prosecutor's order. A case file has been opened against him for causing an explosion and common endangerment.
The Labour Inspection Body (SEPE) was informed of the incident, and an autopsy was ordered for the deceased. The police investigation and preliminary investigation are being conducted by the Agios Theodoros Police Department in cooperation with the Corinth Prosecution and Crime Investigation Directorate. The arrested individual is to be brought before the competent prosecuting authority.
