A shop employee in Attica responded to a robbery after discovering that the perpetrator's pistol was fake, using a cleaning pole to chase him away.

On the evening of Sunday, 6 July, shortly after ten o'clock, a man aged around 50 entered a sweet shop in Nikaia. He was wearing a dark blue cap and a black face mask. He headed straight to the till, demanding that the girl working there give him the sales money.
When his demand was not met, the intruder pulled a small weapon from his holster and pointed it at her. The employee moved backwards, trying to find cover behind the shop's furniture. The perpetrator aimed at her and pulled the trigger, but no gunshot was heard as the weapon turned out to be a replica and its bullets were empty.
Realising she was no longer in danger, the woman grabbed the nearest object she could find — a mop — and attacked the robber. She chased him through the shop's premises, hitting him with the wooden part of the tool. The man managed to collect whatever cash he had readily available and escaped by running away.
The shop had previously suffered twenty additional incidents of theft or break-ins. The prosecuting authorities in the area have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend him.
