Footage presented by a television broadcaster reveals the movements of a 28-year-old man, who is believed to have carried out a contract killing against a 25-year-old compatriot in Exarcheia.
According to reporting by Kathimerini, the images show the suspect moving towards the attack site at around 8 in the evening. He is wearing dark clothes, a hat and headphones. Prosecutors estimate that he was either communicating in real time with the individuals who gave him the order, or following navigation from a GPS device.
The victim had the habit of taking his pet for a walk at a specific time and location, near the steps of Kallidromio. The perpetrator appears to have known this routine and headed there to locate him.
The case reveals the structure and operating method of a Turkish criminal organisation. The masterminds had provided the hitman with photographs of the target on his mobile phone, in order to avoid any confusion. The fee that had been agreed for the murder amounted to 19,000 euros.
The team that organised the crime took care of every detail. It rented six different apartments through a short-term rental platform in the wider area, in order to cover the perpetrator's accommodation, transportation and concealment needs.
Shortly after 9 in the evening, the hitman located the victim and shot him seven times. This was followed by a premeditated escape plan. He moved to one of the rented apartments in Exarcheia, where he changed clothes, and was then transferred to another hideout in Kallithea. At the same time, his associates undertook to neutralise the traces at the first house and dispose of the weapon.
Despite the careful planning, Greek authorities managed to gather information and footage from cameras, with the result that they located and arrested the 28-year-old two weeks after the crime.
