Four people have been arrested for involvement in a criminal gang allegedly linked to a 49-year-old serious offender and planning a bombing attack on a prison officer's residence, as well as assaults and arson.

The Extortion Division of the Hellenic Police proceeded to arrest four foreign nationals, who are alleged to have been members of a criminal gang under the direction of a 49-year-old man who is imprisoned in Grevena prison.
As reported by Newsbeast, the detainee has been convicted for the murder of lawyer Michalis Zafiropoulos. From his cell, he is alleged to have given orders to external associates, who operated mainly in the wider centre of Athens area.
The authorities are investigating the gang's involvement in an attempted placement of an explosive device at the entrance of a residential building where an employee of Korydallos prison lives. The incident had taken place approximately seven months ago and is assessed as particularly dangerous, given that it could have put human lives at risk, including those of minors.
In parallel, the investigations concern a brutal assault on a detainee, which was even recorded on video, arson attacks on motorcycles in the areas of Geraka and Pallini, as well as incidents involving the use of firearms against vehicles and shops.
According to police assessment, the organisation sought to control specific neighbourhoods, to terrorise people and to confront other illegal gangs.
The four arrested individuals are Albanian nationals, aged between 19 and 47 years. Ten other people are also involved in the case, nine of whom are already imprisoned.
Following the solving of the case, officers from the service also known as the "Greek FBI" conducted inspections in correctional institutions. During a prison cell search, a smartwatch was found as well as notes on paper, which are being examined by the authorities.
The arrested individuals were brought before the prosecutor.
