Six people, including a 31-year-old woman, were taken into custody by police following an operation by the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime. The group is alleged to have developed a network for trafficking psychotropic substances in Mykonos and the wider Attica region.
According to information that emerged from the investigations, officers had placed the suspects' communications under surveillance. The recording of messages yielded evidence that shed light on how the gang operated. The participants used code names and special terminology for their transactions.
In one of the conversations that was made public, one of the traffickers speaks with a senior member of the group regarding customer orders. The senior member gives an order that nothing should be delivered without prior payment, whilst elsewhere reference is made to the preferences of the buyers.
The alleged head of the operation appeared as the owner of a passenger transport service. Through associates who worked as drivers, he organised the supply and distribution of substances to interested parties. The members of the network moved carefully, using mobile phones and messaging applications to coordinate their movements.
The police operation was completed successfully, with those arrested being brought before prosecutorial authorities. Investigations are continuing in order to establish the full extent of their activities and to identify any additional associates.
