Drug gang dismantled in Thessaloniki – 8 arrests
Eight people were arrested in Thessaloniki for drug trafficking using hired vehicles. Among them two Greeks and six Albanians, aged 16–28.
Thessaloniki: Drug gang used hired vehicles to avoid detection
Eight members of a criminal organisation were arrested in Thessaloniki for drug trafficking, the Hellenic Police announced. According to skai.gr, the perpetrators stored narcotics in their residences and transported them to various areas of the city in hired vehicles, in order to make their detection difficult.
They consist of two Greeks and six Albanians, aged 16 to 28 years. The arrests were carried out by police officers from the Immediate Response Narcotics Unit of the Organised Crime and Investigation Directorate of Thessaloniki Police.
The operation began on Thursday afternoon, when a 16-year-old was spotted leaving the residence of a 28-year-old in Pylea. In the minor's possession were found two packages of cannabis with a total weight exceeding 2 kilograms and one package of cocaine weighing 104 grams. According to police, he had received the quantities to hand them over to a third party in exchange for payment. During a search of the 28-year-old's house, 800 euros were seized, one collapsible metal rod and two mobile phones.
At a second residence in the same area, where the foreign defendants lived, a total of 545 packages of raw cannabis weighing over 1.3 kilograms and 13 packages of processed cannabis with a total weight of 1.15 kilograms were found. Empty nylon packages for the distribution of narcotics were also seized, two folding knives, one precision electronic scale, five mobile phones and 450 euros.
As officers were leaving the second house, a 16-year-old girl was arrested who, according to police, had purchased a small quantity of cannabis — without being charged as a member of the gang.
The eight arrested individuals are to be brought before the competent judicial authority.
