Dismantling of vehicle theft and ATM bombing gang in Attika and Corinthia
Two members of the organisation were arrested in a police operation — the network had stolen 43,420 euros from an ATM in Martino, Phthiotis, in 2023.
Gang using improvised explosives dismantled ATMs in provincial supermarkets
The Organised Crime Confrontation Directorate dismantled a criminal organisation that was active in vehicle thefts and ATM burglaries, according to In.gr. During an operation on the afternoon of Monday, 14 September 2026, police officers from the Property Crimes Department intervened in areas of Attika and Corinthia.
Two Greek nationals, aged 44 and 29, were arrested. Charges were filed against them for criminal organisation, forgery, explosion, damage to foreign property, robbery and violations of weapons and pyrotechnics legislation.
According to the police, the defendants formed their structured group in late 2023, with the aim of committing vehicle thefts and breaking into ATMs at bank branches located in provincial supermarkets. In December 2023, members of the organisation manufactured an improvised explosive device using solid explosives and placed it in an ATM in Martino, Phthiotis — with their identities concealed and carrying weapons.
They subsequently used a steel cable and a crane lorry they had stolen in the same area, towed the safe and loaded it into another stolen van. The safe contained 43,420 euros. The same investigation identified their involvement in two further vehicle thefts, between October and December 2023, in Kifisia and Metamorfosi, Attika.
During searches of residences and body searches of the defendants, a pistol, a folding knife, walkie-talkies, four naval signal flares, vehicle forgery equipment and numerous mobile phones were found and seized.
The arrested individuals, who have come to the attention of authorities for other offences in the past, were taken to the competent prosecutor's office.
