The Organised Crime Confrontation Division dismantled a criminal group that systematically stole lithium batteries from base stations in several areas of Greece.

Four people were arrested as members of an organisation that removed lithium accumulators from mobile phone installations. The police operation was carried out in the regions of Attica, Euboia, Boeotia and Thebes.
According to Tanea, the gang had an organised structure with distinct roles. A 39-year-old man is believed to be the leader, with dual capacity as an executive member and person responsible for distributing stolen materials. Two individuals aged 32 had operational duties, whilst a 52-year-old from abroad provided information about locations due to professional involvement in telecommunications.
The perpetrators identified targets, broke into installations and removed the accumulators. They used encrypted words such as "windows" to confuse the prosecution authorities. The batteries were divided into two categories depending on their capacity.
During investigations, 103 accumulators were seized, 45,000 euros in cash, 71,000 euros in a bank account, mobile phones, credit cards, a location tracking system, weapons, two automobiles and a leisure motor boat. The authorities have clarified 105 theft cases in Attica, Euboia, Phthiotis, Phocis, Corinthia, Boeotia, Larissa and Volos, with total damage exceeding 560,000 euros.
