Police in north-eastern Attica arrested two members of a criminal group that defrauded elderly citizens by impersonating employees of an electricity company. The proceeds exceeded €130,000.

Men aged 31 and 26 were arrested by police from the Marathon Security Department on the afternoon of 8 July. A case file was opened against them together with two other individuals who have been identified and are being sought.
The ring is said to have been active since April. Members contacted potential victims by telephone, primarily elderly individuals. Posing as employees of an electricity company, they claimed that power would be cut off. They persuaded the victims to gather money and valuables, which they subsequently removed from specific locations within their homes or through unsecured entrances.
Authorities intervened following a report of telephone fraud against a woman. Police arrived at her residence and arrested the two men as they were removing jewellery.
The investigation has revealed eight incidents in areas of Attica. The total proceeds of the group are estimated at €130,000. The arrested individuals were brought before the prosecutor.
