Active police officers and doctors are reportedly involved in the ring, a fact that raises particular concern over corruption within the Authorities.
During investigations carried out in multiple areas, the Authorities seized quantities of anabolic substances with a total value estimated at €500,000. Beyond narcotics, weapons and hand grenades were also located and seized, evidence that indicates the seriousness and armed character of the group.
The operation is part of the efforts of the prosecution authorities to strike at the networks distributing prohibited substances in the country. The involvement of individuals serving in the security forces and in the medical profession raises issues of corruption and internal oversight.
