A gang that carried out thefts of transformers and electrical equipment from wind farms and DEDDIE facilities in Euboea and Attica has been dismantled by police.

Police authorities have prevented a network stealing electrical equipment from renewable energy installations and grid infrastructure in Euboea and Attica. Six people have been arrested, including a 38-year-old foreign national believed to have directed the gang's activities.
According to Newsbeast, the operation was carried out in early June by the Athens Crime Prosecution Directorate, with assistance from police in Euboea and Karystos.
Shortly before the arrests, three of the suspects had broken into a wind farm in Euboea to remove equipment. Gloves were found in their vehicle, whilst cables that had just been cut were discovered in a nearby location.
The gang is believed to have been operating since January 2026. Members had assigned roles, with some acting as lookouts and others as drivers. Their aim was the systematic removal of components for illegal profit.
The perpetrators primarily targeted wind turbines and DEDDIE substations. They removed transformers and cables, which they transported in lorries. The stolen goods ended up at a facility in Aspropyrgos, where they were processed and cut up.
Searches at homes and the processing facility revealed and seized a significant quantity of cables, five mobile phones, a small quantity of drugs and €500 in cash.
Eleven theft incidents have been clarified, with the total value of stolen items estimated at over €110,000.
The arrested individuals were taken to the prosecutor.
