The death of Giorgos Mazonakis served as a catalyst for former patients of the medical couple on Carneades Street to speak publicly, as reported by Naftemporiki. Their testimonies describe "diagnostic" methods and preparations that lack approval from the competent authorities, whilst charges in some cases reached €1,700.
"My aura came out yellow"
The first testimony comes from a woman who had previously had cancer. "The doctor sat me in a chair and placed electrodes on my head, hands and feet," she says. "With these she told me she was measuring my aura on her computer. If what she saw was in the colour of the rainbow then you were well, but if it was yellow you had some health problem."
She stated that her result came out yellow and she was attributed gynaecological problems, after which so-called "Theta" therapy from the doctor's associate followed.
"She recommended certain preparations — nutritional supplements, Russian ones, of unknown origin. All incredibly expensive. The prescriptions cost up to 500 euros," the testimony continues. She was directed to a specific pharmacy in Pangrati for obtaining the preparations. The final stage was a recommendation to visit a "holistic dentist" due to allegedly "toxic teeth". In total she spent approximately €1,700 for three visits and the supplements.
Magnet, thyroid and vitamins costing a month's wages
The second testimony concerns a visit 30 years ago, when the doctor was running the clinic alone. "She took off my shoes, placed my feet and hands on a magnet and from there she told us what illnesses we were at risk from and how we would protect ourselves," she describes.
The woman, who had come from America, stated that she was diagnosed with risks from the thyroid and gynaecological problems. She was given vitamins from a specific pharmacy, the cost of which corresponded to an entire month's wages. According to her, she was "sold a fairy tale" that her body was "generating cancers" and thus was frightened into purchasing the preparations.
Pharmacist describes samurai heads and injectable supplements
The third testimony comes from a pharmacist who visited the doctor in 2017 following a recommendation. "The clinic was a bit strange, it had quite a few samurai heads, and there were many images together. It did not fit the atmosphere," he stated to Mega.
His "body fluids" were measured with a device, he was given injectable supplements and pills, and was told he had digestion problems. Following a recommendation, he paid 200 euros instead of the normal price — which, according to him, amounted to 300 euros for the history and 600 euros for an examination.
The testimonies, insofar as they reflect real events, suggest according to Naftemporiki the existence of a network of extortionate activity with preparations that have not received approval from the competent authorities.
