Arrest in Peristeri: 41-year-old woman accused of attempted poisoning with atropine

Security camera footage documenting the arrest of a 41-year-old woman in Peristeri has been made public, according to newsbeast.gr. In the material, she can be heard shouting "help" as officers from the DIAS unit place handcuffs on her. The woman is accused of attempting to poison her estranged spouse, a military doctor, with atropine.

The first suspicious symptoms appeared last February, following shared meals between the couple who were already separated. The doctor presented, without knowing the cause, altered taste, dry mouth, mydriasis, tachycardia and hallucinations.

A decisive development occurred during a joint outing by the couple to a restaurant in the northern suburbs, approximately two months ago. The doctor asked to see the establishment's video footage and discovered that the 41-year-old was secretly adding liquid to his glass. Immediately afterwards, he installed a surveillance system in his residence.

On the afternoon of Sunday, 11 October, the camera recorded the woman pouring an unknown substance into food, including into a jar of honey. The doctor was watching the images in a live feed, immediately notified the police and went to the scene. This was followed by a chase until the 41-year-old was immobilised by DIAS unit officers.

The 41-year-old is reported to have possessed a spare key to the doctor's residence and entered it wearing a surgical mask, a hat and gloves. Her parents were also arrested, reportedly waiting for her a short distance away in a car. During inspection of the vehicle, officers seized 10 ml of atropine as well as medical equipment — gloves and a mask.

The case is now in the hands of the judiciary. The seized substance has been sent for analysis to the General Chemistry Laboratory of the State, whilst the charges against the three individuals involved will be evaluated by the competent judicial authorities.
