Chilling revelation in Marathon: daughter allegedly buried her mother to collect pension
The local community in Marathon is in a state of shock following the revelation that an elderly woman had been buried in the yard of her house for nearly a decade. According to In.gr, her daughter allegedly buried her in the garden with the aim of continuing to illegally collect her pension — something which she herself confessed to the authorities.
Investigations by Greek police are ongoing. Municipal excavators, in the presence of police forces, operated at the site, though nothing has been found so far.
"They only came out at night"
Testimonies from neighbours paint a picture of complete isolation. "We are in shock, they were not doing well, they only came out at night," said a resident living across from the house, describing a family that had cut off all contact with the outside world.
Another neighbour described the moment he encountered the authorities at the site: "Leaving in the morning for work, I saw bulldozers, police and a loader digging. They told us they were looking for an elderly woman in the garden. I have lived here for ten years and had never seen her. Obviously, if something like that happened, it would have been before the decade."
The same neighbour also referred to the unusual behaviour of the residents: "Generally they had no contact with any of the neighbours. They only came out in the evening, even their dog they let out at night. As far as I can tell, they had some psychological issues, they were not quite right in the head. We are really in shock, we don't know what is happening to us."
According to information relayed by In.gr, other neighbours stated to the police that the elderly woman was alive in 2013, but since then no one has seen her again.
