The statement of the 41-year-old accused of killing his wife was completed at Kalamata Courts. During the proceedings, which lasted several hours, the defendant presented versions that differed from what he had stated in his initial testimonies.
According to reporting from ERT, the 41-year-old claimed before the investigating magistrate that his wife attacked him first, wielding a knife. As he stated, a struggle then ensued and he managed to disarm her. However, the findings of the forensic examination do not support the self-defence account.
The injuries found on the victim's body, their direction and severity support the account of premeditated crime. The testimony of the 39-year-old's father, who was in the house at the time, corroborates this conclusion.
The defendant admitted he had placed a recording device in the residence. As he stated, his purpose was to collect evidence for the custody proceedings involving their two children, aged 10 and 6.
The defence argued that the couple, although living in the same house, had been essentially separated since the summer of 2025. The children were in the adjacent room when the incident occurred.
