On the day of the funeral of 45-year-old Antigoni, who lost her life at the hands of her husband in Drama, her sister made a public appeal for action against gender-based violence and femicides.

In few words, the victim's sister stressed that today they mourn not only her sister, but also all the women who have lost their lives in a similar way. The 45-year-old was killed by the man she had chosen to share her life with.

The speaker underscored that abuse affects society as a whole, not only the victims and their families. She called for greater vigilance and assistance towards those at risk.

"It is a social problem that requires action and protection. I hope no other woman finds herself in my sister's position, because she simply asked to live freely. In memory of my sister and all the victims, let us mobilise and stand by those who need it," she said characteristically.

According to reporting by ETHNOS, the 45-year-old police officer was taken to hospital with stab wounds to vital areas and no pulse on Monday afternoon. Her 50-year-old husband, also a police officer, was found dead shortly afterwards inside a car in the Korylovo area of Drama, with a gunshot wound. Initial assessments suggest the man shot himself with his service weapon. So far, no record has emerged of any complaint being filed regarding incidents of domestic violence.
