A female police officer received seven stab wounds from her estranged husband in Drama – the fatal blow struck her heart. According to reporting by skai.gr, a forensic investigation found wounds to the lungs and a final blow that proved fatal. The perpetrator, also a police officer, took his own life minutes later using his service revolver.
The woman's body was discovered by the couple's minor son, who, despite being in a state of shock, immediately called the police.
No warning signs
The police acknowledge that there were no indications of abusive behaviour in this particular couple. Based on evidence gathered, the crime is attributed to something "momentary".
The couple were separated, however they cooperated on managing matters concerning the children after the split. According to skai.gr, the two police officers attended sessions together with a psychologist, in order for the husband to manage developments in his life.
The female police officer had expressed confidence in her estranged husband at her workplace and entrusted the children to him without a second thought. This is also reflected in a transfer request she had submitted to her commanding officer: to receive the allowance of 4,000 euros for service away from base, she had informed him that during her absence, childcare would be undertaken by the children's father.

Nothing predicted the tragic outcome, according to reporting. The couple lived together, had children and reached the end of their common journey managing the separation with apparent calm.
Despite the police's characterisation of the crime as "momentary", the savagery of the attack is beyond question: seven knife wounds, multiple injuries to the lungs and the final blow to the heart leave little room for doubt as to intent.
