Femicide in Igoumenitsa: 14 stab wounds to 25-year-old Penelope – protest march
Citizens took to the streets of Igoumenitsa over the murder of the 25-year-old by her ex-partner. The autopsy revealed 14 wounds from a sharp object.

Women and men of all ages flooded the Town Hall Square in Igoumenitsa on Tuesday afternoon, responding to a call from the Igoumenitsa Women's Initiative. The trigger was the murder of 25-year-old Penelope by her ex-partner, according to ERT reports.
Banners with slogans such as "Anger and grief, not one more missing" and "Not one less, no more murdered women" were held by those gathered during the event.
During the gathering, a statement from the Women's Initiative was read out, which condemns gender-based violence. The statement explicitly rejects references to "bad moments", "crimes of passion" or "clouded minds", viewing them as attempts to distract the discussion from the substantive crime.
"We will not become accustomed to terror, we will not remain silent counting wounds and murdered women. We are transforming grief into anger and fear into collective struggle on the streets," the Initiative stated, while also calling for legal recognition of the term "femicide".
Subsequently, the protesters held a march to the cycle path where the young woman was murdered. Penelope, who was preparing to begin postgraduate studies, met a tragic death at that location a few days earlier.
14 wounds – signs of resistance on her hands
The findings of the autopsy-necrotomy conducted by coroner Giannis Aivatidis are shocking. According to information, the 25-year-old sustained 14 wounds from a sharp object, whilst wounds on her hands bear witness to her attempt to defend herself.
The Igoumenitsa Women's Initiative is in its early stages and seeks to create a space of safety, information, solidarity and collective action, open to every woman in the city.
The funeral of the 25-year-old will be held at 11:00 in the morning at Metamorphosis, Attica, in the presence of family and friends.
