A beach deck chair was at the origin of a tragedy that occurred in Vouliagmeni, an upmarket seaside resort some twenty kilometres from Athens. According to 20minutes.fr, an 82-year-old man died in hospital following a violent altercation with a 76-year-old man, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. on a developed beach in the town.
Greek news agency ANA and public broadcaster ERT, citing police, report that the septuagenarian was accompanied by a 21-year-old woman at the time of the incident. A verbal dispute between the two men rapidly escalated into physical confrontation.
The octogenarian was urgently transported to a hospital, where he succumbed. The authorities have not yet established whether his death resulted directly from the blows received or from a medical ailment that occurred during the altercation.
The 76-year-old man and the 21-year-old woman were arrested, according to Greek media. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
