Athens' Mixed Jury Court has imposed a life sentence on a man who killed his wife and hid the body in the attic for a week in November 2024.

The Mixed Jury Court of the capital has convicted a 39-year-old builder to life imprisonment, who was tried for the murder of his 32-year-old partner. The verdict was delivered by a vote of six to one.
The crime took place in November of the previous year. The perpetrator allegedly first struck the victim with a hammer, then tied a charger cable around her neck and finally transferred the body to the attic of their house. The corpse remained there for approximately seven days. Throughout this entire period, the defendant presented himself to relatives and friends, claiming that his wife was abroad for work.
During his address, the prosecutor stressed that the 39-year-old had exceptional composure when he committed the crime. The prosecutor stated that the perpetrator had organised a plan to give the impression that the woman was still alive. The apology he sought before the court was characterised as perfunctory, as according to the prosecutor he showed no genuine remorse and was only interested in his children.
The court recognised no mitigating factors that would reduce the sentence. Additionally, a sentence of two and a half years was imposed for illegal possession and use of weapons. Only one member of the jury held a different opinion, arguing that it was manslaughter in a fit of emotional impulse and not premeditated.
After five days, the defendant himself contacted the authorities and confessed to his act.
