A 41-year-old man was brought to a courthouse in Messenia under heavy police escort. He has admitted to taking the life of his 39-year-old partner.
The suspect was called to provide explanations before an investigating magistrate. He is facing serious charges, including premeditated fatal assault in a state of mental composure, exercise of violent behaviour within the family, unlawful possession of firearms, and a breach related to personal data.
From the circle of the unfortunate woman, it emerges that the couple's relationship had been toxic for a long time. A relative of the victim publicly accused the perpetrator of inflicting physical and psychological violence on his wife over a series of years. In fact, according to testimonies, he had struck her even during periods of pregnancy, resulting in her losing two pregnancies.
Vasili lived isolated. Her husband did not allow her to meet other people and had restricted her every possibility of communication. She could not use a telephone or seek help from her family circle.
Their minor children were present in the home on the night of the incident. The eldest of them had told schoolmates that his father hit his mother.
The deceased's aunt expressed her sorrow that her niece had not sought help anywhere. "If she had come to me, I would have supported her. I would have found her work and helped the children. She never asked me for anything. That is why I cry," she said.
The children have been informed that their mother died, but not of the exact circumstances. Their aunt expresses her wish to take care of them, as their mother had baptised them and loved them very much.
