On Megaloupoleos Street in Kallithea, a teenager just 15 years old breathed his last following a brutal brawl that broke out late on Wednesday evening, according to information from Naftemporiki.
Initial reports indicated that the victim was 17 years old, but a forensic examination revealed he was 15 years old. The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., when a group of eight people were in a square in the area. At a nearby location, at the intersection of Megaloupoleos and Kremou streets, another group of three people was present, who called for reinforcements. Another five people arrived at the scene by car.
Following a verbal confrontation, the situation spiralled out of control and both sides came to blows. A chase then ensued through the surrounding streets. In front of a residential building entrance, one of those involved, wielding a sharp object, fatally wounded the 15-year-old in the chest and thorax.
The perpetrator abandoned the minor to bleed on the pavement and fled with his associates. Police forces carried out 14 arrests, among them the alleged killer.
He is a Greek 18-year-old who, according to sources within the authorities, admitted his guilt. At the Department for Athletic Violence, where the detainees were taken, the young man confessed that he was the one holding the knife and attacked the victim. The motives for the attack remain under investigation.
Police located a knife which they initially believed was the murder weapon. However, according to the 18-year-old's statement, he had thrown the actual knife into a rubbish bin. At the scene of the incident, a screwdriver and a jumper, which likely belonged to the 15-year-old, were also found.
